Gas prices near you in the US: what to compare
The US Energy Information Administration publishes weekly gasoline and diesel retail-price estimates. These benchmarks are not a live list of the cheapest stations near you. Local comparison needs station-level prices for the same grade, an observation date and an applicable payment method. Sentinelle Auto covers available prices from part of the US market; coverage is not nationwide or complete.

Reference and method
US prices usually use dollars per US gallon. Do not compare them directly with a Canadian price per litre. Check whether cash, credit or membership conditions affect the advertised price. For a detour, use the extra round-trip miles and actual miles per gallon. The nearest station and the lowest posted price are not necessarily the lowest-cost fill-up.

Compare the same fuel
Check the map and station list for your vehicle’s fuel. Compare the same grade, currency and unit; Canadian litres and US gallons are different.
Check the price date
A reported date or age helps you assess the information. Even a recent published price can differ from the pump price.
Consider the drive
Check the distance before leaving. A cheaper station farther away may not be worthwhile for a small purchase.
Read a price with its date.
Sources and publication schedules vary by region. The app shows a date or age when the source supplies one. Always confirm the price at the station. This website explains the app; it does not show live prices for your location.
