Truck fuel optimization: compare the full trip cost

For a fleet, the posted diesel price alone cannot choose a stop. Compare purchased fuel, detour fuel, tolls and eligible discounts on the same trip. SentinelleFuel helps prepare these decisions for routes in Canada and the United States.

Start with the actual planned trip

Fix the origin, destination, vehicle and operational constraints before comparing stops. Calculate the distance each option adds, rather than just distance to a station. A route with cheaper fuel can add time, tolls or a detour that conflicts with delivery requirements.

Compare a price your fleet can actually pay

Record the price date, currency, unit and discount conditions. A card-specific or negotiated price cannot be applied to a fleet that is not eligible. Convert litres and US gallons before comparing cross-border routes. Date the exchange rate you use; Canadian and US dollars are separate currencies.

Calculate the difference before calling it a saving

Entirely fictional example in one currency: 700 litres at a 0.03-per-litre difference give a gross difference of 21. An extra 12-km detour at 40 L/100 km uses 4.8 litres. At an illustrative 1.60 per litre, that costs 7.68. Add 10 in extra tolls and the remaining difference is 3.32 before time and wear. This is not a customer result or an average saving.

Keep discounts and taxes explicit

Separate the amount paid, contractual rebates and tax elements. Do not assume that a displayed tax automatically becomes a saving or refund. Validate applicable treatment against your company documents. This method compares trip expenses and does not replace tax reporting.

Demonstrate results on your actual trips

Keep the route, date, observed prices, volumes, eligible discount, detour, tolls and consumption assumptions for each comparison. Compare the chosen scenario with the original on the same basis. State the sample and limitations; a handful of trips cannot establish an average saving for all fleets.

Where does SentinelleFuel operate?

The product targets routes in Canada and the United States. Results depend on known stations, available prices and fleet-specific conditions. A covered area does not guarantee a price for every station. Contact Groupe Sentinelle to check a corridor or arrange a demonstration; this guide promises no fixed saving.
